Depends on the nature of the delay too. Mech and crew problems can be resolved quickly. Weather delays are a bit more reliable in terms of being unlikely to rapidly reverse. particularly if it's a huge storm across a large portion of the country impacting all airlines and hundreds of flights . Still...don't go too far away.
