Unfortunately if you were to ask three people about a benefit/feature you are likely to get three or more answers. Yes, sad state of affairs. I don't recall seeing a specific time frame you can go back, but you're not the first and far from the last. The important takeaway here is to always get a folio, either paper or electronic, so you can file a missing stay request. Fortunately the deep-inside people do seem to be more competent than what we get on the phone or front desk.
