TWOV in Shenzhen is quite new, but I think your assessment of the situation is spot on. It's in TIMATIC and you're all on the one ticket. Airlines and the Chinese visa serives aren't always that forthcoming with correct TWOV information, although airlines are getting better with advertising the 144-hour variant.

As yours is a straight through set of stops I think, given TIMATIC, you're ok. Just allow plenty of time at the airport in the USA in case they need to make any calls.
