I completely disagree. There is absolutely no question that Delta has realized no-status customers and those with lower level elite status are more willing to pay for upgrades. We know for a fact that Delta and other airlines have displayed different prices for the exact same routings and dates. People have demonstrated this by searching for airfare or even hotels logged into their airline or hotel website and then also searching in private or incognito mode.

There is some marketing science to this. Get the people who don't know better to pay for first-class and then they may be more likely to buy first-class outright in the future.
