It’s fair to say your an optimist for trying to find the good in coach. I’m a long-haul flyer so domestic to me is only a preamble to an over water main event leg. My home airport is BOS and I fly mostly through SFO or EWR. E+ to SFO versus First is a massive difference with the lay flat seats so while I’m also generally an optimistist I don’t agree E+ is anywhere near as good. Dashing to Newark, it’s so short I agree it makes little difference.
