This is a recent issue that I have seen the past couple of weeks, and not only on LAX-PPT, as I had the same issue on KIN-LAX. When I called in I had no luck getting an agent to book it, however I did not HUCA, so YMMV.
I should add that when this happened I had no issue booking with Alaska and BA currency on the same flights.
