Agree on window vs. aisle, but I think pretty much everyone would universally agree certain seats on certain planes are undesirable (e.g., F bulkheads on a 739 - I sometimes seat swap back to C+ they're so bad). I agree that it is annoying that on a light load I'll be put in 1D or 1A and 6 other people get upgraded to far better seats.

It wouldn't be hard for Delta to come up with a desirability score based on where people default their seats to (either individualized or just by seats in aggregate) and prioritize upgrade to more desirable seats. That said, this is a pretty minor thing to gripe about.
