In praise of chicken with winter vegetables
BA economy class food is rarely inspiring, and often bad. So I'd like to write a few words in praise of the current non-vegetarian hot meal option out of LHR, chicken with winter vegetables. It's cubes of chicken breast meat in a gravy with julienned root vegetables, with mashed potatoes mixed with finely chopped kale. It's hearty and wintery without being a boring attempt at a Christmas meal. The vegetables are crisp, and the mash is really quite delicious. There's some artificial smoke flavouring in the gravy which I don't much care for, but there's also fairly generous amounts of thyme. In short, it's quite a good solution to the insoluble equation of an economy class meal that is acceptable to most passengers and affordable to the airline. BA and their caterers have done well this month.
Although, having said that, I still prefer it when they offer a good curry.
