Isn't this what JAL does with their 787's in 2-4-2 with 32/34" pitch?
They charge ~10-20% more than other carriers, but deliver ~20% more space.

Economy customers are still driven by price, and doesn't appear that JAL gets any preference by these customers due to these factors.
