They have similar procedures as CAN (guangzhou). Checked in Baggage can be held by the airline if you decide at check in , in UK if you don't want to pick it up in Shenzhen.

SYX is Sanya by the way. So maybe that is the error.

And to reiterate, SZX and CAN are in Guangdong.

I've actually flown between SZX and SYX. Airport may seem big and busy but the apparently-long security lines go through pretty fast.
