SZX is not Sanya but actually Shenzhen which is next to Hong Kong.
They have similar procedures as CAN (guangzhou). Checked in Baggage can be held by the airline if you decide at check in , in UK if you don't want to pick it up in Shenzhen.
From 1st January 2019. Shenzhen will allow a 144hr visa free stopover. You can travel anywhere In the province of Guangdong.
SYX is Sanya by the way. So maybe that is the error.
