I use mine for more than just flying. I wear them on my riding lawnmower while listening to music, for example.
This reminds me of a funny story. I was flying somewhere out of MSP sitting in 4B and the guy in 4A was connecting from ANC on his way home from the oil fields on the North Slope. There was a very attractive young woman in 4C playing Candy Crush on her iPad. Anyhoo, there was a fairly long departure delay for some reason and the oil worker next to me started sawing logs so loud I'm sure the back of the main cabin could hear him. Well, 4C couldn't hardly contain herself. She stopped and started playing her game I don't know how many times including slamming the cover on her iPad a few times. She was almost shaking she was so upset. The good ol' boy in 4A woke himself up a couple of times during the whole delay but immediately fell back to sleep and back to snoring. She was just beside herself. We finally were cleared for takeoff and the ambient noise in the cabin drowned out most of the noise and she seemed to relax. It didn't bother me in the least because I understood what he had been through. FYI, he was doing the 3 weeks on, 3 weeks off. It's my understanding you can do 2 and 2, 3 and 3, or 4 and 4 in the oil patch on the North Slope.
