GAs lying. Say it ain't so! Seriously, being forced to gate check bags from onboard does cause flights to leave late. If your're in groups 7-9 chances are your rollerboard won't find a place. I'd rather all this be done pre-boarding. If the GA needs to tell a little white lie to accomplish that feat so be it.
