I have had an email from BA (but not from AA) about an equipment change on the a BA-operated leg of an AA ticket. It is purely an aircraft change, from 747 to 777, with no timing change. Is that sufficient reason to call AA to try to change that sector, or does there have to be significant timing change?
Even though it's operated by BA, the ticket was issued by AA so you should not incur any charges due to the equipment swap.

IN THE EVENT, AFTER TICKET ISSUANCE, SCHEDULE CHANGES ARE MADE BY AA THAT… RESULT IN A SUBSTITUTION OF EQUIPMENT NOT ACCEPTABLE TO THE PASSENGER… THE PASSENGER WILL HAVE THE OPTION OF CANCELLING WITHOUT PENALTY, OR REROUTING ON DIFFERENT FLIGHTS TO/FROM THE SAME OR DIFFERENT DESTINATION.
This gets the same change procedures as a schedule change even thought the times themselves didn't change.

Good luck and please post back with your results!
