If you're staying in a Starwood prop, just take the breakfast option. 1,000 points is not much these days, valued at less than US$10.00. If you want that instead of restaurant breakfasts for a duration of your stay, then take the points. Otherwise, just take the breakfast, which is the logical choice.
Starwood guys complaining about losing out on a few points is really silly. Unless you value the restaurant breakfast at less than 50 cents US or something, there isn't much of a decision to make.
