If you have a club room, I do think you can check in directly on the club floor, but I have never done this since the main checkin has never had a line when I have been there (I think 4 times in the last year or two).
You can also check in on the club floor if you are a Platinum member. As for the lines downstairs, they can be crazy long especially with flight cancellations, etc. so checking in upstairs as a Platinum or if you booked a Club Room can be a much nicer experience.
