I think that's a bit extreme. I have GDS access and a few times a year I find codeshare availability lagging to my advantage. For example, I have gotten P class seats on a codeshare, where the original flight was already closed out in P. Ticketed, flew and credited with no issues. I always prefer booking the operating carrier's segment, but it's more nuanced than "no upside".
