And many people don't have the option of booking through the QF website.

I said "more complicated". I have most experience on BA. If I fly a standard long-haul round-trip in business class, it's 140 Tier Points each way regardless of airline (with a little extra if it's a really long route). That is simple, and I don't need a calculator for that.
Having to resort to a calculator is "more complicated", to repeat the exact words that I used. I understand QF's logic, but for the passenger, in practice the QF system is more complicated.
