Yes, the QF FF is extremely complicated for the reasons others have already shared. Simply, you cannot calculate your status earn without taking into account multiple variables.
The great majority of folk I speak to about FF schemes have absolutely no idea how they work.
That said, chasing status and being loyal to one FF scheme / airline is a fool's game.
IMHO you're wasting your time and effort chasing P1 or WP for that matter: focus on maximising point earn not status and favour redemption opportunities without fuel surcharges!
Any good faith explicit in the provider / customer dynamic in airline / hotel loyalty / credit card schemes is largely residual these days.
