Is there any good reason for a 1K (and lifetime Plat) to get the Club Card as opposed to UC membership outright? There's no difference in price at the 1K level. In my case, annual miles spent are roughly the same as annual miles earned, including UC membership. Some years it's up a little, others its down a little.
The Club card provides 1.5miles/$ on all purchases (extra .5/$ on UA purchases) - probably the only significant benefit beyond Explorer card and membership purchase. There's also the high-end hotel "deals" - free breakfast or upgrade room, etc. which I have never used...
