Kind of a sad day for me. I couldn't get any retention offer at all for my Citi AA Platinum Select Amex. I've had it for six years, you can't get it any more, and they've always given me a nice retention offer. I guess I can't blame them too much because I don't think I've used it at all in the last year.
I'm surprised that Citi hasn't converted that to an AA MC by now.
Anyway, if that's the only Citi AA card you've had for those years, you can simply apply for a Citi AA MC, with no AF the first year. Which would be better, since you not only don't have to pay an AF, but you get a hefty sign up bonus as well.
And no need to worry about closing the current card affecting you AoA, as cards you've had stay on your CR for up to 10 years after they have been closed. It's as if the phantom cards are still open for purposes of AoA.
