So looks like the person who had the 3pm slot no showed so they took me in a little earlier.

Still good to know that HKG or CX finds it acceptable to show up 10-20 mins before departure time. My BP does say gate closes 10 mins.

Unlike in the USA where the process begins an hour early and eyebrows are raised if you are not onboard 20 mins before departure on an international flight.
