I found KLM agents in the lounge to be very flexible with IRROPS.

Last time I missed connection AMS-ARN and was rebooked hours later. I had separate ticket ARN-SVO on SU and would not make it with proposed rebooking. I asked to be offloaded from AMS-ARN so could just buy a new ticket directly from AMS to SVO and KLM offered to rebook me to SVO on its own metal absolutely free. I ended up rejecting offer because I found earlier flight AMS-SVO on SU and KLM offloaded me from AMS-ARN keeping my ticket intact. I even ended up getting prorated refund for unflown AMS-ARN from Delta + some $$$ voucher from Delta customer service for inconvenience.
