You are right. I tried on my phone, disconnected from my home wifi and thereby routing thru Verizon, and it worked. Connected to wifi it did not work, so it must have something to do with Comcast (my ISP) and presumably this 'prf.hn' website that I believe the portals use as part of their tracking mechanism, and some weird conflict with Marriott.com.
Edit to add: Also, I did try renewing my IP address from Comcast via my router, but it always came back with the same IP address.
