Interesting insight in this thread, particular thanks to [MENTION=262802]corporate-wage-slave[/MENTION] - some of those were new to me, but make sense.

It seems to now be incorporated it as part of the wider Data Science and Analytics stream, but BA used to have an Operational Research graduate track. I suspect a lot of the decisions around which flights to cancel are heavily informed by these kind of analyses.
