Personal platinum member ~3 years, ~40K yearly spend. AF hit 29 days ago so called # on back of card to discuss options of cancelling/ downgrading...agent was ready to cancel my card right away. Told him I would wait as I had ~200K points left on my card so would need to figure out which card to downgrade to (he looked at my spend and said i'd benefit most from the gold card) or where to transfer them.

Was hesitant to call retention line but tried this AM (because what do you have to lose) and got 50K points or 500 statement credit w/ no spend.
