$300 voucher for downgraded no $ upgrade cost domestic J to Y seat?

Not complaining, I can always use $300. Mods place this as you see fit. Wasn’t sure it fit on “IRROPS" or "Chances for Upgrade..."

Did a short non-biz travel trip to Germany (DEN-DFW-FRA) departing on Thanksgiving Day. I used an SWU, AA70 from DFW. AA70 cleared almost immediately, 3 weeks ago - requested both or the AA70 leg to clear not just the DEN-DFW domestic leg.

The DEN-DFW leg cleared to domestic J about 4 days before departure, not sure if it was an SWU add-on or complimentary. It just showed up. I picked another J seat. 2 or 3 were open.

App then indicated on the day before departure I had an unassigned J seat DEN-DFW.

Showed at the gate in DEN and my original Y seat in exit was now my seat. I was OK with that. Then she produced a $300 voucher which, not surprisingly I greedily accepted. $300 for a no cost to me upgrade, bounced on a less than 90 minute flight? I’ll take it.

Wasn’t aware a voucher in these circumstances was policy - or was it just an error?
