Not sure why you were told $50 for an exit row seat... isn’t it $10? In any event, it is $50 to upgrade to F on an inter island flight at 24 hours as published on HA’s website:

Upgrade to First/Business Class

Hawaiian makes it easy to do this during OLCI. Just click on a F seat and you’ll be directed to a payment page.

If you are checking bags, the upgrade fee may be worth it.
