Welcome to FlyerTalk.
I would never book an international (without preclearance) to Domestic connection at LAX with less than two (preferably three) hours. (For the Domestic to International connection I’d still recommend an hour or longer.)
1) LAX is “gate poor” and it’s not uncommon to wait for a gate or be bussed in from the remote gates or hangar area.
2) All previously uncleared international arriving passengers must proceed through immigration, recover baggage, pass through Customs and recheck baggage. After that the passenger must clear security to go airside again - and likely arrive at one terminal (Tom Bradley International Terminal, or TBIT), proceed landside to Terminal 3 or 4, process security, and for certain regional flights take the shuttle bus to the remote “American Eagle” Terminal.
