One hotel in London had the hairdryer built in to the desk, and you had to flip up the desk top to get it. There were no markings and so it was not at all intuitive, and you had to clear everything off the desk in order to get at the hairdryer (or flip it all onto the ground) which was not an intelligent design.....
I believe this is a peculiarity endemic to the UK, with its health & safety culture run amok. For some reason they believe that it's an incredible danger to have an electric outlet in the bathroom. And yet, other countries seem to have figured out how to have protected outlets in the bathrooms.
