Agreed. Without an email confirmation tough to figure out what was going on. Certainly Marriott can track changes to rates, some are of course legitimate. If it was me and I really no longer had the confirmation Email I would eat the difference myself. Sometimes it is the first night that is cheap and which Marriott displays and then the 2nd is more expensive. In any event the OP did IMO not do the right thing.
