Unable to chose a seat, had to call customer service

Strange experience this morning - tried checking in to my flight via the app, and it skipped straight from page 1 to page 4 and bypassed the seat selection screen.

From both my PC and tablet tried choosing a seat through manage my booking, but exactly the same thing happened, skips from checkin page 1 to page 4 and no seat map displayed. Called BA customer service, who couldn’t initially change it either, and so switched to the “internal system” and changed my seat that way.

Apparently my old auto-assigned seat was still showing as allocated afterwards.

Is this a regular problem? It’s the first time I had experienced it.
