How does SDC'ing otherwise make it "a hassle" to call and ask for a third seat together?
Sorry for the confusion. Actually because we're flying mostly weekends, there are usually more open E+ seats than E-. Sometimes, I'll move the flight two or three times (like if we decide to go later), so the hassle is calling multiple times and getting the guilt trip from the occasional phone agent who probably knows I'm being cheap. I don't really feel that guilty because from talking with people sitting around us, I've found many of the open E+ seats are filled with standby and BE passengers who weren't able to select a seat, and E+ was all that was left.

On the annual subscription, United only charges $200 more for 8 companions vs. 1, but as a Gold, I would still have to pay $899 for that same benefit difference.
