Not the same at all. You changed the routing and took advantage of the cheaper fares out of a competitive market (ORD) vs. an un-competitive hub-hostage market (DTW). Once again, the fare being quoted to OP is NOT a broken fare. There are no broken fare combinations that would give you a $442 fare. It's a simple through fare for LAX-NAS (fare basis code XNNJ0NFX), but unfortunately, one for which there is no actual Z bucket availability. There is Z bucket on the individual flights, but not on the married segments which is all that matters when quoting LAX-NAS through fares.
Note that there is Z bucket available on flights 377, 337 when married. So OP just has to take the 8:05AM flight instead of the 9:30AM flight to ATL to get the $442 fare.
