Turnaround report
I’ve, been, turned and survived. Highlights:
• 3 1/2 hours allowed turned into a 2 1/4 actual time due to a tech aircraft on the inbound and a delayed departure
• I was number 2 off the aircraft, but number one by the top of the jetway, a little concerned that an Alitalia flight had beat us in by 5 minutes
• Decided to head to immigration to check queues before taking transit option.
• No real queues at immigration – 2/3 in each line. Bought visa for $15US from first moneychanger (have right money) and stuck stamps into passport and joined shortest queue.
• Through immigration in < 5 minutes, customs in < 1 minute.
• Departures is on the same level as arrivals – go out of the arrivals building, through the large throng of people, and turn left into the warm night.
• Slight confusion with my LH e-Ticket and the guardian to the check-in area. He checked with LH to ensure ticket was valid (had diff time on the receipt since LH had changed the departure times after issue).
• LH check-in completed in 5 minutes at business counters
• 5 minutes through exit immigration (out-igration?)
• Into lounge – no booze, though comfy seats.
I think I managed the whole thing in less than 30 minutes, with no bags and good luck with the queues. Remember that the check-in deadline is ca. 60 minutes for most airlines and that the transit route may be better in a tight spot. I preferred to walk myself through the system (at a cost of $15), but kept control of my passport and ticket and enjoyed waiting in the lounge, not a transit area with hard seating.
