I liked the new masculine blue, gray, and white room design and overall public spaces decor. I liked the subtle Art Deco hints mixed in with the heritage touches from the original neoclassical building in the public spaces. There was absolutely nothing dated or downgraded to the hotel decor to me. The bar/lounge was beautiful. The room was beautiful and exceedingly comfortable (especially after I moved to a second room with excellent air con). The whole hotel felt luxurious, plush, and yet appropriately modern even in the historic building. Service also was to a great standard.
While I was not a fan of the RC Club, I’m no fan of any Club or Executive Lounge. I found the in-room dining to be excellent and the bar/lounge to be great, as well.
My RC San Francisco review is posted in the consolidated Marriott/Starwood/Ritz Forum.

I think everyone knows I’m a huge fan of the StR San Francisco, which is even more modern and a bit more minimal in its design. I still very much enjoyed the RC.
My experience is over 5 years ago so I guess the problem with the tired rooms this time was fixed. BUT the tired room was not my only problem. Dining options were OK, but during my visit it was still the crew of the former Michelin starred restaurant. Service was far from great, weak performance.
