If I were in OP's shoes and an earlier flight were out of the question, I would rent a car at the airport. I still think I would find an earlier flight.
Renting a car will certainly negate all possible savings in buying cheap air ticket now, maybe I will wait for further announcement about the exact start time (if it starts not so early in the morning I may be able to stay in Venice for a night and go there only on Saturday)
