There are a few things that could go in Hold 5. Golf clubs and bikes are usually not too much of a problem either. However the front hold is close to the engine so the loader has to move out to collect the ULDs and cargo is limited. The operating cost is not that much less than the A320 either. I don’t believe BA are ordering the A319 going forward

I absolutely disagree with your note on bikes. If the flight is quiet, if there are 5 boxes, if all boxes come down in time... then yeah, no probs. But in my experience, between May and October it's always a full flight, there are always 15+ bags at the gate, one buggy and of course it's 10 mates all going to Nice with their enormous boxes (which no one has bothered notifying BA about, because it's obvious that below the wing there's the fairy of baggage who'll make everything fit). I used to love cycling once.
