Worse than I could imagine ...
You made me check T&C, and I couldn't find the T&C link on the main Hertz web site any more ! Only a link to privacy policy, and FAQ to Hertz Gold Plus; not to T&C. This seems to have been removed from the main site or I need glasses ... None mentions grace period.
Google pointed me to
https://www.hertz.com/rentacar/reser...GRACE&EOAG=LAX stating 29 mins grace for standard (non PC) rentals.
Called customer service, and the agent said as far as he knew PC gets 2 hours grace. For the T&C he pointed me to the web site but couldn't tell me where exactly on the web site. He could not comment on perks offered by Hertz for Amex Plat customers, but we know that's (still) 4 hours.
Customer Service also said they can't do anything about the "overcharging" an extra day. It depends on the rental location. Customer service can't intervene, need to take this up with the rental location directly. He admitted most rental locations probably would put the car return time at the time the location closed (always over the last 2 decades ...), but customer service can't intervene, admitting technically the rental location could "not find" the car in the parking lot for a few days letting the extra time tick on. The customer writing the return time does not matter in that, it is the rental location who will put the return time, arbitrarily, as they pretty please, in the system. Customer service said if you do not want to be subject to this unilateral return, return the car personally within the contract time and opening times, and insist on getting the invoice straight away.
Rental location does not want to hear about it.
Time to write a formal complaint to clarify it all, as if loyal customers do not have anything better to do ...
