as has been cussed and discussed a lot upthread, bag scanning is another unicorn ... if it happened consistently, compensation would be a no-brainer
I got my first guarantee from DL last week at DCA: the baggage service agent handed me a card with a URL; shortly after I hit "Submit" the screen changed to show "Verified," and the mileage appeared in my account overnight

sadly, I suspect you're right -- on both counts
I don't have any more AS travel this year that will involve checking a bag, so will have to see how things shake out after the first of the year
