Since I'm climbing the status ladder just on personal leisure flights alone, I'll only be a lowly Silver by the time this trip rolls around - I've never been offered a free upgrade, but I assume status plays into it? Off topic, I know, I'll go research it more.
I also read here somewhere that BA likes to upgrade people to show them a slice of the good life as a marketing tactic - but since we already happily paid for a POUG from WT to WT+ to CW on the return trip, I suppose I oughtn't count on that either?
