You might get away with it but unlikely. You have to check in. No 5k options near you where you can check in? You can check out using the App.
If you have something to buy, use the credit card and pay it off next month. That way you aren't out any points and you get two nights credit!
Also, not sure which status you are pursuing but the only real status worth much is Globalist in my opinion... and it's worth a lot. Not sure I'd burn points just to get Explorist.
