They have recently changed the names of the rooms and I am more familiar with the panoramic suites xx01 and xx02 which are on the river side of the building, rather than the xx27 and xx28 suites which are on the city side of the building, so please do not take my comments as gospel.

Suites xx27 and xx28 are mostly city views but the river is not a straight line so you can see the river at a distance if you look on the side.

Golds get a 1-category upgrade upon availability and Diamonds get a 2-category upgrade upon availability. So if you are Gold and book the Family Suite, I think technically they will upgrade you to what they now call "king river view suite" which I believe is the city side, but the difference with the family suite is that it allows lounge access. If you book the river view suite, you will possibly be upgraded to the panoramic suite, which gives lounge access, river side (xx01 or xx02), but unrenovated. The highest category above that being panoramic executive: renovated, river side, and lounge access.
