You have to clear security to transit to another flight. If you have an onward boarding pass, you should be able to clear security (usually it's very quick) and access the lounge. However, I have only tried to access the lounge when I have an onward boarding class on a Star Alliance carrier (in business or as a Star Gold). If you are continuing in coach and don't have Star Gold status, I don't think they will let you into the lounge.
I do have *G status, so agree I should be admitted to the lounge. The thing I'm still not sure about is whether I can clear Security to get to the lounge with a BP for the next day. And if successful, will there be any issue getting to Immigration/Customs and then leaving the airport, since I will now technically be in the departure area of the airport.
