Anyone who wants to bet their Globalist status, or want to risk battling Chase over an interpretation after the fact, is obviously free to do so. Otherwise, the prudent thing to do, given that this is new for both Chase and Hyatt, is to wrap up any needed spending before one’s December statement cuts.
I'm saying that not only is this prudent, but it's required. The nights are not issued until the statement closes, and it's very clear from the terms of service that the nights are valid for the year where they are issued.
