My annual $550 Amex Platinum fee hit at the end of Sept. I called and ask for some offer before I cancelled. The first rep at the retention phone # said nothing was available since I got a retention bonus one year ago. I said ok I’ll think about it. Immediately thereafter I dialed the number of the back of AMEX and was switched to retention. This rep said nothing about last year and immediately offered $300 if I spent $4000. I asked for points instead and he said 30k. I took the points.

p.s. This was about 40 days after the fee hit and I had already paid it.
