I was looking for a more recent thread about the ease of connections for passengers who fly Air Canada via YVR, YYZ, YUL etc instead of via the U.S. and I came across this thread. @yyznomad had an EPIC post from October 2016 re connecting via YYZ, so I will add this article from Australian Business Traveller, Nov 1, 2018.

This other thread could be a good alternative Canada to USA with connection in YVR
