I assume you'd keep the miles and AA would keep the money -- the only time Mileage Multiplier is advantageous is when buying very small quantities of miles to avoid the processing fee... otherwise the >$0.03/mile price tag is higher than what you'd pay just buying miles when they come on sale. Long story short, I doubt AA would actually have an interest in avoiding Mileage Multiplier transactions ancillary to canceled tickets.
