My roommate and I are going SEA-ORD for my bday in December. She is going to stay in the midwest and start her Christmas early, though I will be returning to SEA. I called in to drop her from the return leg, but the Boise agent was unable to do so without canceling my return and having me buy a new, possibly more expensive ticket. She can no-show on the way back. As long as the primary passenger is traveling, the companion doesn't need to be there. I'm not sure you'll be able to split her of the reservation, but couldn't hurt to ask after you've already traveled the first leg.
