Right now I am at the CP Tainan, which is an outstanding property. I have never been to a Hilton close to this, and it easily stands up to the best Marriotts I have been to.
My initial brand perception would have put CP somewhere slightly below a full service Marriott or Hilton, but so far my experiences in the properties I have been to puts them same or higher.
Some of it is Asia vs. Europe vs. US, I think. Crowne Plaza seems to follow the typical pattern of the best properties being in Asia, European properties ranging from good to poor then most of the worst properties being in the US (with a few decent ones thrown in the mix).
The problem is Crowne Plaza has very little brand identity on top of that and the variation in quality is more severe across geographies than with most other brands. An IC in Asia is likely to be better than one in the US, but there are still things that tie them together and some of the US ICs are still very good. A new Crowne Plaza resort in Asia has almost nothing in common with the older generation of US properties beyond the logo above the door.
